Training in emergency general surgery

General surgeons need to employ a wide range of skills and specialist knowledge to perform surgery in emergency situations. There is also an increasing demand on emergency surgical services for the assessment of acutely unwell patients who may not require an operation, but do require assessment and diagnosis.

This resource page provides useful information on selected general surgery clinical emergencies and on future service models for the delivery of emergency general surgery, as well as the type of training that is required.

It includes:

  • Lectures & debates from the  Emergency Surgery meeting on 2 December 2016
  • Interviews with leading surgeons
  • Key references for further reading and CPD accreditation
