Professor Tim Rainer and Mr James Glasbey present the case in favour of all general surgical trainees undertaking posts in accident and emergency medicine. Professor Rainer opens by discussing the importance of broad training, supporting the NHS, and enjoying your work as a trainee surgeon. Mr Glasbey follows this by arguing that management of surgical disease is increasingly non-operative, trainees and trainers want to do emergency medicine, and that patient safety should be everyone's responsibility.
This debate was filmed at the 'Emergency surgery and the future of general surgery' meeting at the Royal Society of Medicine in London.
