Professor David Taylor (The School of Pharmacy, University of London) puts this cardiovascular debate into the context of social change and shows how pharmacy is part of this changing scene.

This lecture was filmed at an event called: 'Jephcott symposium: The future of prevention in cardiovascular disease'.

RSM Event Description:

"It is often said that prevention is better than cure, but do we know this to be true in practice or is it an article of faith? Do we have a clear account of both the benefits and disbenefits of preventive medicine? Should we press ahead with interventions to reduce further the biomedical risk of the UK population, or should possible adverse effects and the problems of inappropriate medicalisation hold us back? Could there be a way to maximise our opportunities for prevention yet minimise inappropriate medicalisation? Cardiovascular disease provides the classic case study for an examination of these issues.

This meeting critically examines recent developments and possible future trends in the prevention of cardiovascular disease."

Date of Lecture: 19th April 2011.

Length: 00:28:22
