Using her journalistic experience, Ms Emma Kirby discusses 'compassion fatigue' and considers ways to engage the public in mass migrant crisis. Ms Kirby also outlines the background and motivation behind her book, 'The optician of Lampedusa', a personal account of an Italian optician who rescued refugee survivors stranded at sea.
